My daughter asked me yesterday morning as I was heading out- 'So mom, are you teaching today or is some one teaching you?!!'
LOL
Seriously, I must have written ( in my head) at least 6 posts while dropping the kids to school or on my way to school or when I'm supposed to be studying for an assignment.
Alas..they never made it to blogger but lemme try and put them down in form of munchies
- I'm a Maami (aunt) again--3rd time around and the very first time to a baby girl. Little sweet Dia- just in time for Diwali! Yah!
- Diwali came and went....I went to the kiddos school and we celebrated and introduced the holiday to Sim and Sid's classes. I told the Diwali story as usual, we lit a diya in the classrooms and also shared mithai. Mithai this year were shaped as bite size ladoos so popular in the blogsphere in the form of Kalakand. This amazingly easy microwave recipe which I had bookmarked on Sandeepa's site was a lifesaver. I made 5 batches and had plenty to share.
- Halloween saw the kidz dressed as Dorothy and Spiderman. The weather was gorgeous for this time of the year and it was fun to look at all the costumes instead of jackets. The kids were more than happy to throw out the crappy chemically colored candy and feasted on good old chocolate! Yah...the kids have taste!
- The economy....
- Elections, elections, and elections- need I say more? Go Obama!
- I've come to the realization and belief that "Everything happens for a reason and that it's all a part of the plan", so might as well chill out! Do the best and don't sweat the rest!
- I've got the munchies big time!!! Been eating like mad 'cause it's Fall. I do it every year . It's almost like I transform into some kind of a teenager when Fall comes around except without that fast metabolism. Needless to say, it results in some excess pounds. Trying to be regular at the gym and ACV before I get out of my comfort zone ;-)
- That brings us to the recipe in this post. Never been a chivda person. Chivda is a spicy deep fried snack usually made of gram (chickpea) flour. But Cereal Chivda? Hmm..no deep frying..only spicy tangy crunchy tastiness..and pretty much guilt free at that? Sure..bring it on!
Cereal Chivda Munchies
Ingredients
2 cups of brown rice puffs
2 cups plain cheerios or O cereal
3 cups of raisin bran cereal
1/2 cup roasted peanuts
1/4 cup raisins (optional)
1 tablespoon oil
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds (rai)
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)
4-5 curry leaves
2 green chillies slit in the middle
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
3/4 teaspoon Mango powder (amchur)
Method:
Heat the oil. Add the mustard seeds. When they start spluttering add cumin. Next add the green chillies and curry leaves. Fry them for a minute on low heat till crispy.
Add all the cereal, peanuts and raisins and cook for a 2-3 minutes. Keep tossing them to make sure that the ones on bottom don't get burnt. Turn off the heat and add the salt and spices. Adjust the spices to suit your taste of course.
Cool. Store in an airtight container. Tastes better the next day.

Totally believe this Bharti.. Its a fact!!
Munchies look and sound great !!
Hmm.... this might bring a little cheer to my otherwise morose life when it comes to munchies ... calorie and sodium laden ones bring along such a burden of guilt. :-)
And yeah .. Chicago must be rocking today! It is Oh Bama! :)
Oh, look how you sexed up cheerios! Very cool, Bharti.
I love how you write up posts in your head :) I have all these ideas as I'm cooking but they fizzle out by the time I'm ready to post. Sigh.
Your daughter is precious!
Chivda looks yum... I make this regularly and agree with you..it is a good guilt free crunchy snack...
Awesome!!! First time here, you have marvelous collection! Keep up the job and thanks for sharing, dear!
Congrats on becoming a maami (auntie)again,it must be a wonderful feeling.Obama's historical Win was amazing! .And the fast paced chivda is a superb idea:)
Loved your munchies...from life and from the food world!
First time here..I love your way of writing..unique recipes!
first time to ur blog, nice collection of recipes. Liked this ceral chivda.
Even we celebrated Diwali in my son's preschool and made coconut burfi for the children. Actually my mother made it, we also followed the recipe from another blogger. Halloween was great, especially the weather was forgiving enough, so we did not have to wear jackets.
That's definitely an interesting snack recipe Bharti, will check the other blogs too. Some food taste so good the next day, even the bars which I had posted, the taste got better each day.
Ah! I have heard of this... but never tried it. I eat cereal day in and day out if I have them at home, so kind of staying away from them at the moment. But this is amazing.
Congratulations! Dia is such a pretty name..
I am in the process of shifting house and I could so do with a batch of this instead of the unhealthy brekkies i have taken to lately. You have inspired me to make it again, and the garlic powder sounds just the sort of twist it needs. Thanks B:)
Looks yummy and I love it too. I've never added cheerios to it. Will add it next time.
nice twist to breakfast cereals...
These are a fabulous snack I bet they tasted wonderful.
what a great idea... I just munch cheerios, now there is a better way :)
Congrats again Auntie! :)
